A popcorn limiter changes the rev limiter on diesel vehicles when the engine reaches the limiter.
Most diesel vehicles hit the preset rev limiter and remain at that exact rev point until the driver intervenes (soft-cut limiter).
However, if a hard-cut limiter has been programmed, the engine will jump in a similar way to a gasoline vehicle (hard-cut limiter).
This is done by cutting off fuel injection at maximum engine speed.
